Pisa/NY on the street, contrasts and analogies

Pisa and New York confrontation: the streets, the geometries and most of all the life street. A comparison that builds up through 50 black and white photographs in the "Pisa/NY on the street” exhibition. Pisa/NY on the street is the new photo retrospective whose aim is to compare two realities that at a first glance seem so far, but that have a lot in common. The initiative has been realized in association with “Idee per Pisa” and Toscana Aeroporti S.p.A, organized by Marco Carmassi, a Pisan contemporary photographer. The exhibition presents 50 black and white shots which lay bare the two cities to underline a comparison that sometimes grows up with analogies, sometimes with contrasts.

Pisa e New York a confronto: le strade, le geometrie e soprattutto la vita per strada. Un confronto che si materializza attraverso 50 fotografie in bianco e nero nella mostra Pisa/NY on the street. Pisa/NY on the street è la nuova retrospettiva fotografica che intende mettere a confronto due realtà profondamente lontane eppure tanto affini. L’iniziativa è stata realizzata in collaborazione con “Idee per Pisa” e Toscana Aeroporti S.p.A. , la curatela è di Marco Carmassi, fotografo pisano contemporaneo. In mostra 50 scatti in bianco e nero che intendono mettere a nudo l’essenza delle due città per facilitarne un confronto che qualche volta procede per analogia, altre per puro contrasto.

Dalla Strada dell’Olio alle vie del mare

The project is the result of the cooperation of 5 cities with the photographer and organizer Marco Carmassi. The landscape photography meets the artistic one to give back the due beauty to the cities around the Leaning Tower City. The itinerant and free exhibition “Dalla Strada dell’Olio alle vie del mare” (“From the Oil Street to the sea roads”) has started on the 13rd of May 2016, in the rooms of the Palazzo Pretorio in Vicopisano.It is and exposition of 40 black and white photographies, which illustrate through lights and shadows the historic Oil Streets that goes from Lungomonte to te sea passing through 5 cities: Vecchiano, San Giuliano, Calci, Vicopisano, Buti.

Il progetto nasce grazie alla collaborazione dei 5 comuni con il fotografo e curatore pisano Marco Carmassi. La fotografia di paesaggio incontra quella d’arte per restituire la bellezza dei luoghi d’interesse che gravitano intorno alla Città della Torre Pendente. Venerdì 13 Maggio 2016, nelle sale del Palazzo Pretorio di Vicopisano, ha preso il via la mostra fotografica itinerante e gratuita “Dalla Strada dell’Olio alle vie del mare”. Un’esposizione di 40 fotografie in bianco e nero, che raccontano attraverso la luce – e le ombre – 5 comuni che dal Lungomonte pisano portano al mare, formando la storica Strada dell’olio: Vecchiano, San Giuliano, Calci, Vicopisano, Buti.

Pisa on the street - A daily life project

Pisa on the street. This is the name of the project realized by Marco Carmassi and his ten students. The project is the result of an advanced photography course in Pisa. The young photographers have done hundreds of shots to the city of Pisa with the aim to publish the best ones in a book. From the book publication has born the idea to present it to the Magnum Agency. Thanks to Marco Carmassi knowings and to the association Idee per Pisa, the dream to fly to the Big Apple and visit the most important photo agency has become reality.

Pisa on the street. Si chiama così il progetto realizzato da Marco Carmassi e i suoi dieci allievi. Il progetto nasce alla fine di un corso avanzato di fotografia che il fotografo ha tenuto alla libreria Erasmus di Pisa. I giovani fotografi hanno scattato decine di foto per le strade della città pensando alla fine del corso di pubblicare un libro contenenti i migliori scatti. Dalla realizzazione del book fotografico, l'idea di presentare il lavoro direttamente alla Magnum. Grazie alle conoscenze nel mondo della fotografia di Marco Carmassi e all'associazione Idee per Pisa, si è quindi realizzato il sogno di volare nella grande mela per far visita alla più importante agenzia di fotografia.
